Lackawanna County Interagency Council Met at: Salvation Army On: June 15, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chris Davis, President. Fifteen members were present: Chris Davis, Nancy Kilmer, Jane Barlow, Jane Oswald, Judi Cimino, Evie Vitali, Jill Blessington, Vikki Crosby, Nancy Fahey, Linda Denault, Terri Stocki, Marge Suarez, Joanne Stephens, Carolyn Tugend and Nick Cohen, guest speaker. Introductions were made, minutes were reviewed and approved. No treasurer’s report. OLD BUSINESS: v Website – Carolyn reported: o Our logo does not scan well. Discussion followed. Since Jim is a graphic artist, members agreed to allow him to change. o She is waiting for an updated membership list and our By-Laws before paying the fee. It is better to have it as complete as possible before this is done. o Discussion followed regarding the By-Laws. The only copy available was from 1991. They need to be updated. Volunteers to review are: Chris Davis, Nancy Fahey, Jane Oswald and Nancy Kilmer. A meeting will be held Wednesday, July 13, 9:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army. All interested members are invited to attend. We will be using Monroe IAC By-Laws as a guideline. To view, go to www.iacmonroe.org. The Rose Center or Legal Aide will be contacted to review before adding to the website. o Reminder: All members who want a link to their agency website, please provide necessary information to Carolyn. NO NEW BUSINESS:
v SPEAKER: Nick Cohen, FutureConnect. FutureConnect started in 2003 as a Career Education Program. This program is becoming available in all Lacka. Co. schools, and is currently available in 13 counties. They are also reaching the public through Community Centers and Libraries. From their web site (www.futureconnect.org), you can explore careers, all U.S. schools, in-demand occupations for county or state, available scholarships, and much more. Nick mentioned that a job availability survey was done in Lacka. Co. Call the Chamber of Commerce and ask for the 2003 Work/Play Survey results. FutureConnect is hosting a community training session to prepare agencies to use with clients. Session is scheduled for Monday, June 27 at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Mother/Infant Home at 1213 Prospect Street. Contact Whitney Barshinger at 499-5944 to sign up. Note: This website is not currently available in Spanish.
v AGENCY UPDATES: o UNC – Camp St. Andrew runs July 5 to Aug. 5, for ages 5-12. Any child can attend regardless of income. Contact Pan Berg at 343-8835 x107 for more details. o Salvation Army – The Captain and Mrs. Payne have been promoted to Major and will be moving to the Lockhaven area. Major Bea Connell will start June 29. o C.D.E. Training is collecting Cell Phones for Soldiers. Call 963-6842 with your questions and gardening and lawn problems.
