Met at: Salvation Army

On:  January 19, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chris Davis, President.

 Sixteen members were present:  Chris Davis, Mickey McConnon, Nancy Kilmer, Tony Delonti, Terri Stocki, Devon Fawcett, Suzanne Lesniewski, Vikki Crosby, Linda Denault, Olga Harper, Marge Suarez, Jim Festa, Joyce Ravinskas, Mark Taffera, Faith Smith, and Sue Conrad.  Our guest presenter:  Betsy Broberg

 

Introductions were made by members.  The minutes were reviewed and approved.  The Treasurer reported a balance of $346.65.

 OLD BUSINESS:

v    Spring Luncheon: 

o       Date:  April 20, 2005

o       Speaker:  Carolyn Tugend

o       Place:  Salvation Army

o       Caterer:  Bryers Market

 NEW BUSINESS:

v    Web Site – The Monroe County IAC has a Web site which was sent to all who have email.  Carolyn Tugend has volunteered to design one for us. 

v    Dues for 2005 – Mickey will mail to those agencies not in attendance today

 

 

v    AGENCY UPDATES

o       Chris Davis  distributed Career Link’s January workshop calendar.  Anyone can attend the workshops.  Future calendars can be viewed by clicking on workshop calendar at www.lackawannacounycareerlink.org

o       Sue Conrad has joined Coalition of Disabilities.  They meet the 3rd Thursday of each month and dues are $25.00.  They are sponsoring a Barrier Awareness day in May.  For more information, contact Sue at sconrad@friendshiphouse.pa.org or call 341-9736

o       Shriners Orthopedic Screening Clinic schedule was distributed.  All services are free and they will also provide transportation

o       The Red Cross is asking member agencies to provide them with a written agreement regarding cooperation during disasters.  A draft was provided for use.

 v    SPEAKER –  Betsy Broberg, Volunteer American Red Cross

Betsy presented the council with Disaster Readiness tips.  We learned about the need to keep a water supply on hand, what important papers you’ll need in an emergency, and how to pack and maintain an emergency bag.  If you would like Betsy to make a presentation to your staff and/or clients, contact the Scranton Chapter at 344-7281.

 There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
