Lackawanna County Interagency Council Met at: Salvation Army On: May 17, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m. by Chris Davis, President. We had 26 members present representing 20 agencies: Chris Davis, Jane Oswald, Cheryl Rutkowski, Nancy Kilmer, Cheryl Roglich, Florence Gratz, Fran Davis, Mary Louise Loftus, Terri Stocki, Mickey McConnon, Suzanne Lesniewski, Jim Simonceli, Beth Rundell, Gerald Durkin, David Beecham, Siemong Wang, Marge Suarez, Sylvia Kolosinsky, Joanne Stephens, Mark Taffera, Janet Burtan, Michele Davis, Maggi Rambus, Diana Statsman, Jeanne Brolan & Ann Pusateri. Introductions were made. Minutes were reviewed and approved. Treasurers report is $929.29 as of April 31 with two checks outstanding from the luncheon totaling $275.60. OLD BUSINESS: v Spring Luncheon Chris thanked everyone for a successful luncheon. Sylvia passed a copy of the article for all to see. A suggestion was made to start a scrapbook for pictures and articles. NEW BUSINESS: v Chris stated that the Exec. Committee waved the dues and luncheon cost for the Salvation Army for 2006. Mary Louise made a motion that dues and luncheon cost continue to be waved as they provide our meeting space and refreshments. Seconded by Fran All in favor. v Newsletter was distributed v Membership committee did not meet today. A letter is being prepared to invite new members and members are asked to invite other agencies they have contact with. v 1st SPEAKER Beth Rundell, Branch Director Lupus Foundation of PA. They are located at Keystone College phone 1-800-800-5776 or 570-945-5118 or www.lupuspa.org. Lupus is Latin for wolf. Thus the name for their latest educational coping tool The Wolf Pack. Its available to anyone at a cost of $20.00 but is free to families affected by Lupus. Also, Daisy Day 2006 is June 6. A bunch of daisies containing over 40 blooms can be purchased for $7.00. An order of 5 bunches or more will be delivered. Order deadline is May 31. v 2nd SPEAKER Gerald Durkin, Scranton - Lackawanna Human Development Agency (SLHDA). SLHDA is a private, non-profit program governed by a board of directors which addresses the public, private and target sectors. Programs under SLHDA include: o Head Start & Early Head Start serving four counties Lackawanna, Wayne, Pike & Susquehanna with 22 centers o Employment & Training funded by US Dept of Labor. An individual training contract is written for each participant. Funding of about $7000/year is available for training if eligible. Participants must reapply annually. Can apply for this program through Career Link. o Community Programming with includes the Energy Assistance program and a Partners program with includes budget counseling. o Senior Community Service Employment Program - They currently have 67 slots through National Council on Aging and 16 slots through Area Agency on Aging. This program is for workers 55 and over and provides training for these individuals. They are in need of host training sites and participants must do community service hours. If your agency can host these workers, provide some community service jobs or refer clients, call 963-6836 or 344-3498 v AGENCY UPDATES o EOTC Renovation Raffle & Revelry, Sat.
