On:  May 18, 2005

 The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chris Davis, President.

 Eighteen members and guests were present:  Chris Davis, Mickey McConnon, Nancy Kilmer, Jeffrey Dargatis, Jane Oswald, Mickey McConnon, Suzanne Lesniewski, Jim Simonceli, Vikki Crosby, Cheryl Roglich, Marge Suarez, Jim Festa, Joanne Stephens, Fran Davis, Cindy Davis, Jill Blessington, Nancy Fahey, Paul Molter and Cecilia Smit.

 Introductions were made by members.  Minutes were reviewed.  It was suggested that since Allied was not a paid member at the time of the last meeting, we should revisit the motion seconded by them at the last meeting.  Vikki Crosby again maid the motion to pay the $20.00 for our web site, seconded by Jane Oswald.  All in favor.  A motion was made to approve the minutes as corrected by Mickey, seconded by Vikki, all in favor.  Mickey reported a balance of $476.63 in the treasury.  

 

OLD BUSINESS:

v    Web Site – Chris reported that Carolyn had a problem with the logo and is currently being corrected by Jim Pusateri.  Thank you Carolyn and Jim for all your work in making this web site possible.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

v    Nancy reported that the By-Laws have been entered on the computer.  They are from 1991 and need to be reviewed.  Discussion followed that Tom McHugh and Camille Holmes had been reviewing them, but no report had been made.  It was also pointed out that we need a lawyer to approve any changes.   

v    AGENCY UPDATES – CDE reported that they are a drop off site for used cell phones for soldiers.  The money raised is used to purchase calling cards for the soldiers.  They can be dropped off at their office at 435 Green Ridge Street.  Phones can also be dropped of at Career Links. 

v    Penn State is conducting a Composting Class Sat. May 21 from 9:00 to noon. Cost is $5.00 and you receive a composting bin.  Also the Garden Help Line is open.  Call 963-6842 to register for the composting class or to talk with a Master Gardner.

 v    Salvation Army Summer camp is $32.00 for the week.  Call 344-9878 to register.

v    SPEAKER – Today’s speaker was Carlene Gula from EOTC Family Matters.  Carlene introduced us to their Parents as Teachers program.  She stated that many children are not ready to learn when they reach kindergarten.  This program is designed to help children in their most critical period – the early years.  Parents as Teachers is offered at no cost to all interested parents within Lackawanna County, regardless of income.  Curriculum covers prenatal through 5 years, includes home visits (2/month), health and developmental screenings, and a vast resource network.  For more information or to make a referral, call 348-6493

 

v    NEXT MEETING – June 15.  Speaker is from Future Connect.  This will be our last meeting until September.  We do not meet in July or August. 

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:40 a.m.
