Lackawanna County Interagency Council Met at: Salvation Army On: October 19, 2005 The meeting was called to order at 9:10 a.m. by Chris Davis, President. Fourteen members were present: Chris Davis, Jane Oswald, Mickey McConnon, Nancy Kilmer, Nancy Fahey, Paul Molter, Carolyn Tugend, Vikki Crosby, Olga Harper, Marge Suarez, Neen Bracey, Janice Lamm, Michele Davis and Mary Louise Loftus. Introductions were made and the Agenda was modified to allow our speaker to leave early. v SPEAKER: Michele Davis, University of Scranton Continuing Ed Dept. Michele explained that the U is exploring new ways of offering their programs. They are working with individual or groups of organizations to customize programs to meet their needs and also offering at discounted rates. They offer credit, non-credit and certificate versions, on-line programs, and will bring the training to you in most any location. Call the Continuing Ed Dept. at 570-941-7582 for more information.
Minutes – Nancy stated that the copy of the minutes that was distributed did not include the motion to contribute $200.00 to the Katrina Disaster Fund. Members reviewed minutes. A motion was made by Janice Lamm to accept the minutes, seconded by Marge Suarez. All in favor.
Treasurer’s Report – Mickey reported a balance of $602.63 as of September 30, 2005. There was no income or any expenses for September.
OLD BUSINESS: v Web Site – Carolyn reported the site is just about ready. Minutes and agencies have been added. Any agency who would like a link from IAC to their agency should contact Carolyn at 570-496-0296 or Carolyn@eocinc.org.
NEW BUSINESS: v A check for $200.00 was presented to Salvation Army for the Katrina Disaster Fund. v Nominating Committee – Michele Davis and Carolyn Tugend volunteered for this committee. o Discussion followed regarding officers that would be needed for 2006. Chris, Mickey and Nancy have held their positions for 2 years. Jane was just elected last month as V.P. The By-laws state that officers should only hold an office for 2 years. Three positions would need to be filled for 2006 and all four for 2008. Mickey made a motion to make an exception for 2006 to allow Chris and Nancy to server another year in their current positions. Seconded by Vikki – all in favor. o The office of Treas. is open. If anyone is interested in this position, please contact Michele, Carolyn of one of the officers. v Christmas Meeting – This meeting will be held on Dec. 14 at Telespond, 1200 Saginaw Street. This is at the end of Stafford Avenue, across from Mt. View Nursing Home. Time is 9-11 a.m. with a short meeting at 9:30 to elect officers and a tour at 10:15. o Refreshments will be coordinated by Mary Louise and Vikki. We will pass a sign-up sheet at the Nov. meeting. v Spring Luncheon - Two topics were suggested for the luncheon – Energy Conservation or a presentation by SCOLA by Diana Statsman about literacy. Discussion followed and it was decided that SCOLA would be contacted. Carolyn will contact Diana about a date. She will try for our regular meeting date of April 19. v Membership Committee – It was suggested that we should have a membership committee to help build and maintain membership. Nancy K. suggested the Sec and Treas should be part of the committee. Carolyn stated she would like to be on the committee. Jane will be working on the brochure and a new logo. v AGENCY UPDATES – o Telespond – Pasta Dinner, Sunday, October 30 from 12-4 p.m. Cost is $7.00, under 12 yrs $4.00. Take outs are available o Job Fair today at Pittston Convention Center until 7 p.m. o Salvation Army – Craft Fair Nov. 12, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., § Nov. 14 – PG Energy will be available from 1-3 p.m. to fill out LIHEAP applications § Nov. 15 - Kettle Kick Off o Neen Bracey reported an increase in clients needing housing and furniture. Priority is going to those with jobs. o Oct. 28 is a Breakfast with the Legislatures at the Radisson. Agencies are meeting with them to request more crisis funding. Call Marge at the Salvation Army for more information. o Penn State Extension has a need for 4-H leaders – contact Ruth Burns at 963-6842. The also have “Take the guesswork out of roasting a turkey” brochures available. Request number needed or a master can be provided to make your own copies. v NEXT MEETING – Nov. 16.
